The newly appointed Prime Minister of the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU), Ocole Andrew, has pledged to join efforts with the Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) to implement the National HIV and AIDS Action Plan for Cultural Institutions and Traditional Leadership Structures in Uganda for the period 2024/2025 – 2029/2030.

This partnership aims to leverage the influence of cultural and traditional leaders to boost the fight against HIV/AIDS, with a focus on achieving the ambitious goal of ending HIV in Uganda.

Ocole has emphasized the critical role cultural institutions play in shaping community attitudes and behaviors, particularly in the realm of public health. He highlighted the importance of involving traditional leadership in the ongoing national effort to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which remains a significant public health challenge in Uganda.

“Together, we can end HIV in our communities. Our cultural institutions have the power to change lives, influence attitudes, and shape behaviors. By working hand in hand with the Uganda AIDS Commission, we can ensure that the National HIV and AIDS Action Plan is successfully rolled out across all cultural institutions, reaching every corner of our society,” Ocole stated.
